PO Old Flings - Spite LP

Old Flings are an Asheville, NC 3 piece and have been touring and writing these last couple years.  The group started as Matt Evans (Just Die!) writing acoustically; he followed with an EP and then gradually added a full band.  They recorded a demo: http://oldflings.bandcamp.com/ in 2011 and that became Spite that they recorded Spring 2012.  We are very excited to be releasing this.  It has been my jam since I started getting the rough mixes from the Spite recording session.  They will be hitting the road this fall/winter to support the album.  Right now we have planned 100 red and 200 black LPs.  The lacquer has been approved and we are waiting on the test presses.  This is a split label release between me, Bitter Melody Records, and Self Aware Records.  Each label will have around 40 red LPs so I wouldn’t snooze on this too long.

This preorder goes live tonight (August 1st) at Midnight:

A video has been shot for the song “Grip”, which we hope to premiere soon.  Right now we have one track, “Couch Song” up as a teaser on youtube:

On May 4th, we’ll be entering the studio to record our first full-length, “SPITE”, which will be released jointly via BITTER MELODY RECORDS and SELF-AWARE RECORDS. We are very excited to share with you the evolution of our sound from our early Demo CD. It’s always a little funny sending people a link or CD to songs that you personally don’t feel embody the sound and aesthetic of your band. Not the songs themselves, you see, but how they are conveyed musically. Those songs are being re-recorded to match what we feel is a better representation of Old Flings, as they are perfectly good songs and need not be thrown away.
We hope you will love this record as much as we do. Thank you to everyone who has been consistently coming to see us play since our very first show with Iron Chic back at the Edge Frat and to everyone who buys shit from us or offers us shows to play! We are so excited to carry this torch on and play music that not only we love to play, but we love to share with you.
Lastly, here are our plans for after recording:
5/19/12 - Charlotte, NC @ Common Market for Treasure Fest w/ Rubrics, Restorations, Double Negative, Campaign, Black Wine, Just Die!, many more
6/2/12 - Johnson City, TN @ Blue Plum Festival on the Roan St. Stage w/ Cutthroat Shamrock, Mona Lisa Tribal Dance, This Mountain, more
6/14/12 - Asheville, NC @ TBA w/ Family Cat
6/15/12 - Nashville, TN @ TBA w/ Family Cat
6/16/12 - Memphis, TN @ Crosstown Arts w/ Family Cat
6/17/12 - Atlanta, GA @ Wonder Root w/ Family Cat, Burners
6/25/12 - Asheville, NC @ The Murder Basement w/ You Blew It (FL), Ents, Muscle & Bone
6/29/12 - Durham, NC @ Motorco Music Hall for DTFH Fest w/ Mikey Erg, Red Collar, Fake Boys, The Holy Mess, many more
7/21/12 - Charlotte, NC @ Tremont Music Hall for Breed Fest w/ Dead in the Dirt, Dreamend, Blue Streak, Pale Fire, many more
We’re way stoked for the weekender with FAMILY CAT! Most everything is solid except for the June 15th date, which will likely be in Alabama, Chattanooga, or elsewhere, as Nashville is turning out to be a dead end right now.

Ta-ta for now. Don’t forget to order the new t-shirt before we run out!http://oldflings.bigcartel.com/product/holy-fuck-tee

Here is the artwork for our upcoming LP, “SPITE”.  Each of the songs deal with personal issues in my life, so it made sense to me to use actual letters from a previous relationship.  We’ve put a lot into writing these songs and we can’t wait for everyone to hear them.  I think you are going to be able to connect with at least half of them. - Matt Evans

oldflings:

“(A)pathetic” will be featured on our full length, “Spite”  Spite will be release in the upcoming months.  Here is an acoustic teaser for the song, played by Matt.  The song is about growing up with friends and sharing dreams together, only to grow up and see that theirs have faded away.

Lyrics:

You don’t put much faith in anything anymore.  With a cynic’s smile, you make it through the day.  We used to tease the words, “We’re gonna make it out.  We’re gonna run away, hearts in hand.”  What happened to the dreams you had?  Now you want to hate the world.  You’re going to blame it on anything.  It’s pathetic that you hate yourself.
